Mustang Transmition issues.

I know this is a Mopar forum but I think there is a few Ford guys here too?

I have a '65 Fastback with a later 302 Engine and I am unsure of the Transmission at this time.

My issue is that all of a sudden I lost reverse completely. :O I parked up no bother but when I came to reverse outta the spot there was nothing. The Mustang came with a B&M Quicksilver Shifter when I bought it and it worked great up till I lost reverse. On the 10 mile drive home Im sure the transmission sounded and felt different but I was so worried Id not make it that it may have been my imagination. The oil level is good and the fluid smells as it should.

Anyone jave any suggestions? Im looking to sell it as Im moving back to Scotland in a couple of months and this is the last thing I need. :(

Hi Andy if it goes into drive but not D1 or reverse its the rear band usually but it could be the shifter playing up

Cheers Dave, first thing Ill look at when I get home. :)

If thats the case is this a complex or fairly simple fix for a Mechanic who knows his way around American cars to an extent?

OK, just got home and I can confirm that the Muzzie drops into D1 and D2 as well. Reverse is still not there.

Just put the rear end on axle stands chock the front wheels hand brake on disconnect the shifter start the motor and let it tickover and try and lay under and click the shifter by hand if you have a pit or ramp much better

yeah and the exhaust.....it gets hot....eventually.. so if it was a squeeze to get under beware poistion yourself where passage under either pipe is not necessary

As it turns out there is a Ford Transmission specialist not 2 km from my house and the Muzzie is booked in there this morning. Result! :thumbright:
