Rear Leafs

Post by Steve Chapman »

Been under the car this aft mooching around. Notice the rear springs are 5 and a half leafs per side !!. The bottom leaf looks like it has been chopped off on both sides, . The front section from centre bolt to front mount has 6, while the rear has 5. Strange never seen this before. They look like they've been chopped ,not broken. Anyone any ideas?

Yes that's common with mopars, extra half leafs at the front to make it stiffer to avoid wheel hop. Super stock springs have even more front section bias.

Do superstock springs sit the same height as 'standard' springs?

Nope.......higher and stiffer.

You will also find that the right hand spring is around an inch higher in radius than the left.........this flattens out on hard launch to give the car the best/flattest (most tyre) contact patch for a good hook!

Saying that many put them on to find that they are quite flat in appearance........check it out on FABO. Some have lopsided cars some have flat...........most find the height improvement is due to 40 year old springs sagging over time!

The right sits higher than the left!

Wow real drag racing kit eh. Can you buy single leaf springs for fast road use?

Jon,

You can buy 2x left or 2x right. In reality they are identical so you can put two lefts on and it should sit flat.......again many have done this on FABO to try and negate the lopsided look!

Alternative is to have your existing leafs re tempered and an additional leaf added. Will get the car back to stock height but with added stiffness. Only thing you will need is the manufacturers original measurements to give to the company that are carrying out the work!

Sorry for going off topic Steve......... :help: :help:
