Camshafts

Post by Johnny Dart »

It doesn't really affect me , as I already bought a Comp Cams EX268 for my engine project.
But I was thinking about the Comp Cams Thumper and Muther Thumper cams.
Do they actually produce more power than a similar timing/lift XE cam ,
or less power , but lots of lopy overlap, that some people like the sound of at idle

They have a limited power band and don't come on song until 2,000+rpm as I recall?I run the XE268 in my 340 and even with 3.23 gears it's almost too much cam for my b body.
In my old Dart 360 I actually preferred the XE262 as it came onto the power band right from idle. I later fitted 268 and it really came on hard at 4,000+
Some have recommended the Hughes engine Whiplash range but only for lower compression motors. Apparently they come strong from low down.
