timing light tach

Post by morgan »

The other thread prompted me.
One of the things I struggle with is finding the 'sweet' spots for timing and idle type activities. My timing light has advance but no tach, forcing me to rely on my ears. Never good.

Anyway, spotted this on amazon. £7 tacho. I am going to use it 'under bonnet' by attaching some crocodile clips to the wires such that i can 'clip on' and get readings whilst my head is under the hood twiddling things.

For the want of £7 it sounds like a useful little tool. May be of interest...

What more could you want for the money. Does it to 8 cylinders? I don't see a switch, gauges I've used in past had a little switch for selecting number of cylinders.

I got a little laser one. You stick a small piece of reflective tape on the balancer then point and shoot the laser. It records RPM on a digital display. I checked it with a snap on tach/ timing gun and it was exactly the same....was about the same money (under a tenner delivered) and works on all cylinder configurations...this one would be better as you could mount it somewhere that's easy to view if it works on 8 cylinders :thumbright: :thumbright:

Yep. Thought occurred to me. I concluded that a) it doesnt say but then the whole ad is clearly chinese google translate stuff. So there is a good chance it might. B) if it doesnt, lets pop the case off an have a look. Chances are its jumpers on the board or something. C) if none of the above apply it will ( presumably) read double. Given that all i want it for is to get idle and revs when doing timing, halving it in my head not a big deal. Wouldnt fit in the car, but this is just an occasional tool.

we'll see. For. £7 its worth a play :)
