Who's Done The US Nats?

Post by Bilko »

I'm thinking of going to the Mopar Nats in Columbus this year as I've got a ton of air miles to use. What is the best route/flight/airport to get there as Columbus is not an international airport?

If anyone has done it, I would love to hear any advice on where to stay etc.

Jim Wison has done it many times and I think Adam Ford has too, When I looked into going I think we where going to fly in to Chicago and drive down but maybe I'm dreaming.
Are we there yet dad ..... 10 to the gallon but worth it.

Not been myself, Adam or Jim Wilson have been a few times so should be able to fill you in. I do know the nearest hotels get booked up many months in advance.

I went in the 80's  but that was so long ago planes weren't invented back then  I'm sure one of the others will have some more recent experience!!
BTW, 'US Nats' usually means the US Nationals, the granddaddy of all the NHRA races in Indianapolis, 'Mopar Nats' is what you want, should be fun, hope you get there and take a big suitcase for parts!!

Apparently it's a show with racing, if that's what grabs you, i'm sure you will enjoy it. However, if the racing comes first " monster mopar" or the"norwalk classic" is better.

Or there's Mopars At The Strip in Vegas around Easter time - that's also a show with racing.

I thought about doing the Mopars at the strip this year but didn't have time to organize it in time, it is next weekend.

But will do it one year, sounds good.

It looks like Detroit is nearer than Chicago and only a 3 hour drive.

I'm looking forward to acres of quality cars and miles of parts traders. Going out on the Wednesday and coming back on the Monday means I only lose a couple of days off work. Probably left it too late to find a decent hotel though..

Having been to both MATS (Vegas) and the Mopar Nats they are in a different league size-wise. MATS is great but if you are free to choose I wouldn't hesitate to go to the Nats.

Also, MATS is on next weekend! (I will actually be in the US next weekend on hols, but couldn't make it to MATS :( But gonna make it to the NHRA race (same venue) two weeks later :) )

Hey Alex :thumbright:
I think the guy was refering to what it had turned into, not what it originally was.
I've got Jim's videos from 94-5 and it looked an awesome event then.
