Mini/high torue starter

Post by shovelheadrob »

Tried a search but can't find what I'm looking for, there was a thread about mini starters. Anyway has anyone tried one of these ?

Looks good price, good feedback, any comments before I commit to buy?

Looks like a normal late model starter, I'm sure it will be fine.

They work great, better than the old units ,make sure you specify big or small block, they are different, and it does say fits all v6 and v8s, it looks like a small block starter.

We have found some of the mini starters available today are not well prepared and jam and fail due to lack of grease inside.

When you get one it may be worth checking thoroughly and not just nailing it on....

This has been a public mis-information broadcast.

Cheers Pete, always best to lube first rather than just sticking it in!

Had a day off work today & as the starter arrived just as I got back from walking the dog I took the opportunity to spend some time on the car, first thing was get it in the air a bit & remove the TTI's, next offer up the starter, it hits the engine block, bugger! Not a lot, but I couldn't get my angle grinder in there to relieve it so I decided that as the driver side head needed to come off to sort out some broken header studs now was as good a time as any to do it. After carefully centre punching the broken studs then starting with a 4.5 mm drill & then enlarging 0 .5 mm at a time until the threads were just about visible, I was able to remove the remains of the studs by delicately running a tap through the holes. On the way home I stopped by our local tool store & picked up a couple of decent carbide burrs for my die grinder, roll on another free day!
