440 hipo and superchargers
can a standard 68 440 hipo engine be fitted with a supercharger, or have the internals got to be beefed up/changed and what about tranny components etc? also is there differences in power outputs from them ie- standard engines can have less psi as not to damage them etc. and stronger motors more?
sorry if this is a daft question!
black charger and chrome supercharger- awsome looks and a big power boost!!!

There's no point in forced induction on a stock motor as the gains you will reliably get can be found with the basics like a cam change, carb, ignition, exhaust etc, much easier and much cheaper, note the word reliably...
Also reading your post you were talking about a rootes/ Detroit type... this is even worse than a procharger, with a detroit you have no way of keeping temps down at least a procharger is mounted away from the motor giving you the chance to fit an intercooler to help with temps.
A 68 motor has way too much compression, the HI-PO doesn't mean nothing when talking about forced induction, nothing in the motor will stand any decent amount of boost, the cam is wrong, the ignition won't cut it, in fact the only thing you may be able to use is the block and that would depend on boost, too much and that won't cut it.
Once the motor is sorted then the rest of the car becomes useless, transmission, propshaft, u joints, entire rear end all turn the car into an unexploded bomb, it will also need a cage to attempt to keep the body straight.
Oh and forget the fuel system thats on the car, if it's stock it's only just capable of running the car as it is never mind a blower too
The above all depends on boost of course but if it's low enough for everything to live it comes back to sentence one, not worth it.
It's a nice therory and yes it would look cool but to do it right cut a cheque for anywhere between ?10k and ?15k, I guess you could always fit a dummy casing but whats the point and everyone would know anyway
this is only my opinion and some on here may disagree but this is a can of worms and if it's done should only ever be done right first time.

Sean. If you only knew the message board arguments I have had in the past on the subject of superchargers and large nitrous oxide systems on street cars...
I have seen people sucked into it despite my warnings, they have spent a lot of money, and at the end of the day either have a broken engine or a car that never got finished at all because the money or interest fizzled out.
Don't get me wrong. Hats off to those that can do it. But is not for the more common Mopar owner on a budget.
But I don't want to open THAT can of worms either. It is best left in the past.

Oer!!
I could of easily been led into the dark side a year or so ago! Apparently none of me motor was much cop! All old and heavy crap. (so I was told)
But instead I listened to Mr Robson and Mr Billybong (who put me back on the sensible path)..... Now have more than enough power! Not to expensive either.
Well built 440... And maybe a little nitrous plate system? Cheap and powerful!
Blowers, big fuel delivery systems, parts built of unobtainium! All look great on someone elses car.
