I am looking at converting to wilwood front discs.

This kit:

I was then advised to use this master cylinder and prop valve:

and use these residual pressure valves.

And I then need some flex lines also.


So, my car is all manual drum brakes with no power assistance.

First issue would be converting from single, to dual circuit system, has anyone done this to their car?

It's safer I know, and it might not be a bad idea to renew my brake lines.

I'm already driving another car that has single circuit brakes, my 1966 Alfa, I guess it's something I've learned to accept, but maybe I should be changing them on the belvedere.

Does anyone think my current master cylinder would be ok? I am advised I would need a 1" piston for this wilwood kit.

I'm intending to stick with manual brakes.....

I have Wilwoods on 2 of our cars, they work great, and my first set I used the factory master cylinder,it stopped,

but then I put the 1 inch bore master cylinder, and it stops like a modern car,so yea dont skimp, get all the parts you mentioned and you will be loving the car the way it stops :thumbright:

Stev on here converted his Fury to twin system. Think it's on his the read for the car build.

Thanks, any idea which Master cylinder you used? Is there a factory part number???

As far as the Mopar master cylinder it was the factory unit for a 70 R/T with front disc,s and drum rear,using this unit caused the rears to lock up prematurely, I stayed with the factory prop valve ,and went with the tandem unit from Wilwood , one inch bore, I also stayed with the vacuum assist power brakes.

How ever with your car you have 4 drums,the prop valve might need to be changed out to accommodate the discs , the hard lines should be fine on your car, but you should go with the braided lines from wilwood also .


Are you going to put discs on all 4 ? if you do it will work better as a system.

I have the set of 4 on our challenger, but just the fronts on our cuda and it stops just fine wi8th the drums in the rear,I have not done any panic stops yet , but it is a better system than factory by far, even the alloy hat/rotor assembly is much lighter than factory.

if you change the wheel cylinders for dodge Dakota

your rear lock up problems are reduced due to smaller diameter

get the right ones 9 inch brakes and 10 inch brakes used on Dakota
