Well im not sure how it happened, but me and the wife ended up with fraud.

But jokes aside its been a good car and has impressed us but its still not like the old stuff...

Its a 2007 Shelby GT500, the first year model come back of the Shelby Mustang line. Production for 2007 were just over 10800 with around 2000 of them being in performance white, all hand built at Ford's SVT line.

And so after weeks and weeks of saying we are not modifying it in any shape or form we decided to do just that...... but restricting ourselves to bolt on's only so the car and be put back to stock easily.

This thread will follow the work and progress of the car with minimal bolt on's and simple changes to lower the E.T's just to see how much we can get out of the stock motor, stock blower with a stock pulley set up.

We ran the car at York Raceway a few weeks ago for a day and with it being around 4 years since the miss's last had a run in her old 9 sec nova, so there were a few cob webs to blow out.....

So with stock treads, traction control on, a bolt on k&n and on the dirty side of Yorks track (clean side for slicks, unprepped for treads) it managed a high 13 with mass's of wheel spin even with the TC on.

Not to shabby but was expecting a little better, now time to make some changes to get all that factory power to the ground.

With 500 crank hp standard it aint slow (alougth the 4000lb weight is a disadvantage), at present its running a stock map with air intake upgrade and straight piped (all bar the cat's which are to be deleted hopefully this week, more on that later).

Crackin car Pete!

Old work mate had a normal 07 GT. Great car and even with just the 300 moved bloody well!

Can only imagine who much fun the Shelby is on the road....... :twisted:

yea the farmer use's it for cover when spuds in trailer etc also handy for washing cars when raining :D

You would have driven though it when you came down Dunc.

Our main aims are to lower E.T, keep everything looking stock and or reversible easily, have a stock look cabin with no race add on's visible and be easy to drive with no dramas and not 10 million things to press/sort out on the line.

The first step was some better tyre's, at first i was going to go for a set of MT drag radials due to the rounded shoulder for good clearance.
In the end i went for a set of M&H cheater slicks which also have a good rounded shoulder but with the benefit of being a slick (or near as).

This aint so easy fitting 15" rim on a modern muscle car due to the car being designed around 18" wheels, as luck would have it the rear calipers are small enough to miss the 15" rim but the low slung anti roll bar is right in the way of a 10" wide rim, an 8" would have cleared but i wonted to go for the 10". So we made a set of relocation brackets to move the bar about 1" up inside of the 15x10 rim.

I also opted to run an inner tube in the soft wall tyre due to the fact we are at factory weight.

Second step was a line lock, obviously so we don't cook the rear brakes in the box and also to act as a roll control when staging the stick shift car, this was another item to stop potential drama's when staging.

Again this was done so we retained the factory brake line (now in a box) and a neatly hidden black momentary button was situated on the center console down the side of the handbrake out of sight. Its sits in a right good place, comfortable to used and easy to move to grab 2nd gear with no drama's.

Third step we installed a set of rear lower control arms and some adjustable brackets so if need be we can adjust the cars weight transfer via the intersecting point of the rear suspension geometry,this may come in handy as alot of modern muscle suspension don't like big soft wall tryes.

Fourth step: Next Potential drama to eliminate on the line was rev setting on the start line. Firstly it's a pain to stage then set the revs and secondly inconsistent rev setting makes inconsistent pass's.

To eliminate this we fitted a launch controller that's adjustable in 100's and 1000's from around 2000 rpm and up.

So not to have a button or switch etc to worry about on the line i fitted a clutch switch, so with the clutch fully depressed the controller is activated then when you release the clutch its de-activated. This has to run alongside the factory safety clutch start switch as it is deactivated by the ecu when the car moves which is no good for when staging.

So we will see how much we gain from them changes also it will be interesting to see how long it takes for the factory clutch to blow out, how good the factory two part prop is and how much the 8.8 dinky donk alxe can take........(all of which i presume will be not very long and not alot lol ..... we will see).

Nice looking car, I still think the late Ford mustang and especially the latest has the won in terms of styling IMHO.

Umm have to disagree there, looks to much like a mondeo. style is aimed alot more at the euro/uk market i think. Good looking car but it would kill me parking it nest to a mondeo .........

I have heard that they are backed up with orders for the rhd version

Although i would still import tbh, due to the import road tax rate being cheeper than on the v8 and i think one of the attractions the american cars is being lhd imo.

At first I thought it look 'euro' with the front end looking like a Fiesta, and indeed it still does, its obviously a marketing thing, but the most of it looks good to me, maybe euro Ford copied the Americans, I think so!
What ever you have a nice looking car, it does look tougher than the very latest one I do admit.

I would prefer a left hooker to be from the States.

Yea i think your probably right with the styling being pinched and softened for the Mondeo...



So hopefully if the exhaust tubing and lambda boss's turn up tomorrow, i shall be cracking on with this in evening to complete the de-cat.

The main reason for removing the cat's, is the launch controller cuts ignition (unlike factory ecu limiter's that cut fuel, we don't want the fuel cut as it leans the motor out), but while sat on the start line foot fully mashed there's alot of cold fuel being delivered to the cat's, firstly damage's them due to the rapid temperature change then again as the fuel ignites in them.

And so they are being removed and put on V Bands so they can be reinstalled with ease.

We will also be running the stock engine map, get the car dialed in, then at a later date put on the rollers for a remap, which will be interesting to see the gain on the E.T's just on the engine map.
