Do people still fall for these emails?

Any email asking for any kind of payment info should be ignored IMO. If concerned go online (not through the link) and find the customer services number.....job job'd.

Wife had a call from Lloyds bank telling her they were looking at her PPI info and possible rebate. Started asking for info so she declined and hung up.
Went online, found a number and called them direct.........it was Lloyds afterall.......better safe than sorry!!

really
was it

or did they just hold the line open after the call play an off-hook sound, wait for her touch tones, use a kids phone ringer, and swap to a different person

thus executing the scam they intended to execute in the first place

You is one devious individual Dave, :D

My bank phoned me about possible fraud on my account and asked for last four digits of my card, I asked for proof, she gave her name and extension to ask for and told me to ring the customer service number on my card. I rang from a different phone, it was legit and she saved me losing 500 notes :thumbright:

Any phone calls, texts or emails asking for personal details I ignore. I don't care what the threat is if I don't, I've had plenty and nothing has happened so far. I have had scammers use my cards online, and had the companies call me, they don't ask for personal details in the same way.

I had HMRC on the phone last year. I asked him to explain how i could verify it was them. He was quite taken aback that i questioned him. It WAS them, but i made them write to me instead!

I had a laugh with my bank a while ago.....similar thing....they phoned me about something and, after they asked if I was me, they asked me to verify my personal details. I refused, stating that its plastered all over their website to not give any details out....so I didn't and they didn't phone me back or write to me.....funny that.....they obviously didn't need to talk to me that badly!

I do worry about buying stuff over the net at times, especially when they ask for your 3 digit security code etc. I haven't been stung yet (touch wood) but it must be easy to do once they have your name, card number, start and expiry date and the 3 digit code

cheers Steve :thumbright:

For a good few years now I've had a credit card that I only use online, it's been hit a couple of times. Only having to cancel that card causes the least amount of hassle. I never use my current account online for that reason.
