Waxoil/Underseal service Westcountry

Post by Garp »

Do any Westcountry members know of a good Underseal service in the Swindon/Salisbury area ?
Also, a rough price - for £500 I can lie on my back for two days with a paintbrush no problem.
Many thanks

I did my Polara and my Fury (will do the New Yorker aswell) on my drive for about £40.

Car up on axle stands, wheels off and a trolley jack either end for added safety.

I dropped the tank out and spent a couple of hours with a stiff nylon brush going around everywhere to get rid of any dirt etc.

Another two hours or so masking anywhere you don't want the waxoil to go. Take as much time as you need to do this properly and accurately.

Will be around mid day now and you have been on your back wearing goggles for 4 hours on a Saturday morning so time for a cold one just to help you along.

Next, warm your can (inc rattle cans if you are using them) in warm water until the contents goes fluid. Cans will rattle like paint when its warmed up and the big 5 litre cans will go from solid to sloshing round like its full of single cream.

Take your time and methodically work from one end to the other doing a section at a time. When you have gone the whole length, have a breather then go over again but the other way and you will get all the bits you missed on your first pass.

Few hours later you will be done and will have a perfect job for a fraction of the cost a company will charge. If you want to fill the rails etc, you can use a pump that fits on the big cans and you can get in through the holes in the box section.

Another tip, for a neat job, keep the can moving at a steady speed for an even texture etc. It will blob up and puddle quickly if you stop or slow down. Also, don't lie directly under the spray as you will get covered in it. Put a big tarp on the drive before hand as well.

Very satisfying when its done and, If you have masked well, looks great!!
