Guy Martin on the Vulcan

Post by Demon James »

Channel four this Sunday night at half seven, Guy Martin on the final flight of XH558.

There seemed to be a fair bit of interest on here earlier this year so thought I'd give it a mention :thumbright:

MOPAR - Move Over Power Arriving Rapidly

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay My Mopar upon you

Whys this darn country got a thing about pensioning things off, i mean what can replace experiencing something like that especially in the sky? :x :x

I don't buy the ''money / cost / hours of airframe'' thing either.

It is not money.

The leading technical companies would not underwrite their components as 558 has flown 10% further than any other Vulcan and they were not prepared to take the risk in the event of a failure / crash / investigation / litigation / PR, etc....

Thats what I heard as well. Risk equals fear, which tries to destroy everything in the end. Its too bad they cannot get passed the control gods who take away most folks pleasure.

Very sad.

Very sad but it's gone well beyond what it was built to do. As they pointed out in the show it's not like restoring an old Spitfire. The Vulcan is all electronic controls with no manual back-up. If one 50+year old component fails, 37 tons of fast moving metal drops out of the sky.
No-one will believe you...
