dart gas filler tube removal

Post by gmopar59 »

I'm about to replace the drivers rear quarter panel on the 68 dart. First i need to remove the filler tube. I remove the screws from the cap end and the screws on the trunk floor. The manual says to twist the tube into the tank. Anyone with experience of this and re installing. Do i need to replace any gaskets when reinstalling? I've attached a jpg of a 66 dart to show where i mean. Thanks.

Pretty much the same as 72.

If the tank gasket is okay then they should be fine.......I applied a smear of Gibbs/WD40 to the tube by hand to help it slip through the gasket into the tank.

You should be able to rotate back and forth an inch or so while applying pressure and it should worm its way in.

No science.....just patience and some brute force! :thumbright:

Removal is even easier. Twist it to break any seal that may of happened over the years. Then pull and twists from inside the trunk towards the wing. One you get it going it should be easy.
