Is that the secret bunker that they advertise with leaflets in all the supermarkets and shopping centres - wherever they have 'tourist info'?

Our dad used to work for Barnet Council and when Stu & I were working with him during the school holidays once.... many moons ago.... he took us out with him when he had to visit one of these 'bunkers' in the borough.

I think he just had to make regular visits to check it was secure, so he had all the keys and I remember going inside and seeing the control rooms etc where the local government officials would go if the Ruskies sent one of their missiles over our way

It's since been turned into a private house and was last up for sale at £4.5million...

Loads of them at work, all built early on in the jolly old cold war, all in very poor state, probably safer to take cover in a garden shed.

Or better still, follow the useful advice-

Mike that is called Mike.

As far as I'm aware, if it does kick off there'll be a warning of approximately four minutes. So how does Pukin' think he'll be able to get forty million people safely into the bunkers? I'm with you Blue. I'd want get as close to the epicentre as possible! I'd rather go in a micro second than endure the horror of the aftermath! If you haven't seen it, check out a film called 'The Day After' think it's with Jason Robards. It came out in the '70s. Very dated now but at the time it scared the living daylights out of me. The unusual thing for a Hollywood film is that it definitely doesn't end happily at all. Anyway, enough doom and gloom. It's a bit nippy on the boat so I'm living in your house while you're away sunning yourself in Crete. Makes sense.

The very same! There's a huge sign for it.

Cool place, really enjoyed our visit. Although the people in the cafe put enough vinegar on their chips to make your eyes bleed!

On the subject of bunkers although this one isn't a Nuc one..its buried in the woods near where I used to live. Rumour has it this bunker was used by Mr Churchill as a cover re any bombing in the country side.
Its was connected to an old manor house with a secret path under the road leading to the dell.
A friend of mine questioned me about its existence and we went back and still found it although its a lot deeper and buried in the ground as I remember it as kid playing down there. The location is central bucks in a little village.

And taking on board its age the bunker wasn't in to bad condition although its did take a while trying to find it under ground in a huge dell.
It would appear that someone over the years has been down there and closed off some of it as there were a small kitchen and toilets down there. I think it was probably the owners of the manor house as it just still within there grounds ( we prob shouldn't have gone down the but curiosity got the better of us.)
On the theme of Nuc bunkers there is a very large one at a place called Wilton park in Beaconsfield according to locals its huge tanks- helicopters and a small army could live down there . It's all shut off now and the area is under redevelopment . Sorry no pics .
anyway pic attached
