Remanufactured carburettors

Post by octanejunkie »

If anyone is running a two barrel carb, and needs it sorting out then this guy on Ebay is very good:

Can be a bit of a minefield buying "rebuilt" carbs, but i've just fitted one from this guy and the car runs a million times better as a result. I stripped it down when it arrived and it was very good quality.
For the record he had a Carter 2 barrel listed for £80 or best offer. I offered £60 and he accepted. Plus £20 post (no customs charge). Took 2 weeks to arrive.
The carb has no markings or casting numbers, but the results spoke for themselves.
A new carb for £80 all in with no core charge?? Can't be bad... Plus paypal will sort you out if theres a problem.
He doesn't seem to have any 4 barrels listed but might be worth pinging him a message.

Thought i'd share this, as its always nice to be pleasantly surprised!

I have one of them

not used it

my intention was

take the throttle plates jets rods springs out of my standard carb and use them to configure this replacement

on the whole you will find that

1) the supplied gasket is rubbish
2) the rubber pipe for the choke kicker is rubbish
3) the carb base is very good and unlike the originals is bushed from the factory
4) the top body of the carb is very good
5) it seemed on a par with a rebuilt carb

see this list

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/sherryberg188/ ... =808198034

the first carb is a HI/TIN TOP carter BBD (late version)

the second is a low top BBD (earlier)

the low top versions are missing the paper clip spring on the accelerator pump rod that goes through the top cover bowel vent

so you need your one off your old carb

these appear to come out the backdoor of a factory in china that makes carbs for US aftermarket suppliers who brand and box them themselves, because US folk seem to think everything made in china is rubbish.
