Can't reconnect speedo at dash
Can't figure out why. I have the clip on speedo cable. Some how it's become I clipped from the back of the speedo. It's not broken, but try as I might I cannot reclip it onto the back of the speedo.
What have I missed. Does it need to be at certain position???

Had the same on the Dart (Duct tape on it for added connectivity).
Luckily the cable had additional length/wiggle room, so pulled it slightly through the bulkhead. it now pushes into the speedo and not had an issue in 24 months!!!

Shouldn't need the cable tie bud. Managed to pull about 10mm additional through. Its now hard up against the connection point, trying to force itself through. No speed bumps or drop kerbs have dislodged it thus far.MilesnMiles wrote:Mmm, bulkhead push might well do it alongside cable tie to steering column bracket. I'm sure it shouldn't be necessary though.
These old cars...
Was interesting prior to this as the cable was out of the housing by around 20mm. As it dropped off the speedo it came to rest on the inside of the dash....cue the head spinning and tapping the dash at the same speed as the car.......rammed on the brakes worrying that the engine had just shat itself or the wheel was about to fall off!

As you say....These old cars......Still love em though.

Yes, ive had that a few times. Sounds like the engine is going bang!!
Im replacing the cable when it arrives as the white plastic shroud and clip is all broken which might be why it makes the noise as its not running straight into the speedo.
Otherwise I have a knackered speedo - Rallye dash conversion time.

Thats just what mine does. Clean and refit may be a plan then, as well as a new cable with a proper end on it.MilesnMiles wrote:Matt, I had a horrendous speedo when I first bought the car; screeching and banging 0-100 and back etc every few yards.
Took the speedo out of the dash. Cleaned it. Lightly greased it. Refitted and worked perfectly for next 4 years.
Currently trying to work out why its become disconnected.
