fitting 383 engine

Post by three counties »

hi all, have just got around to fitting the engine and box in the charger, there is 2 things that i would like to find out,the engine i fitted is a 383 hp ,with the 516 early closed chamber heads,i am hopeing the carb which came of my old engine, will work ok,its a elderbrock 600 cfm,use the car only for the street,i will be looking around for another carb to go on,but at the moment i want to get the car back on the road.also, would like to use the oil temp unit, which came with the new engine, sits at the back of the block, but this one has got 2 terminals,my old one had 1 terminal, not sure how you would wire this up,hope all this makes sense, thanks, mick, ps,forgot to say that my old heads were 906

Edelbrock will be Ok sizing for the engine. Get a Holley :)

Put one side of the Switch to earth (it does not matter which).

Fingers crossed - remember to break the cam in!!!

hi all, booked the charger in for the mot last friday, had kept the car insurance up to date, but i had to sorn it as mot and tax had expired.so i didnt want to take the car out for a test drive untill then.only had the recent engine i fitted,up and running in the garden.all sounded good, checked it all again and set of for the mot.drove the 8 miles to the garage, the car passed mot with no problems.well happy,on the way home the engine felt like it was missing and kept cutting out in the traffic.so spent all day on it checking plug gaps, leaks ect.pete said check the cross fire on number 5 and 7.last thing to check was the new fuel filter i fitted, full of petrol.but it was partly blocked.found the old one and fitted it,problem solved.went out for a long drive and all went well. happy now i have got the car back on the road

Good news and nice when you find such a simple fix to a problem. Hope the new engine is good.
