Supercharger, any experts?

Post by db »

I've just bought this Wade R034 unit from ebay. It was described as "in great condition, with no real signs of wear on the rotors".

Now I'm no expert, but I can see a whole load of deep scoring in 3 or 4 bands on every vane or both rotors and it jams repeatedly when turned by hand.

Have I been scammed?

All I can tell you is that it should turn smoothly but you already know that. If the case has similar scoring I would imagine it's scrap. You really need to have someone that knows what they are doing look at it, even if it was in good shape it might need to be modified to be suitable for what you want to do with it.

I haven't a clue about these things but those scores don't look like they should be there, doesn't bode well

I'm pretty confident it's scrap but I'd like to be sure before I post it back and ask him to insert it where the sun don't shine :angryfire:

Ta Dunc.
Yeah I got in touch with Nigel, he confirmed it. He says the bearings have collapsed or have loads of play and have allowed the rotors to grind each other to bits.
The seller is still convinced it's fine and that I have a bargain

Thanks Dave, that's the plan.
He's agreed to refund but still insists it's in great condition and I'm missing out on a bargain
