Insurance renewal - another thread

Post by morgan »

Gone up again. RH - £205 this year. I mean still cheap but its outstripping inflation by some margin.

RH still the best bet with the club deal or is anyone migrating elsewhere ?

Yep Brentacre still doing good value prices in my view...proof of pudding is always when you need to claim (which I hope is a pudding I never have to taste!)

I had a claim on my old truck ( I wasn’t at fault )
Absolutely 1st class service from Brentacre, and underwriters.
Dealt with one person at a time. All very clear, and a courtesy car in under 24 hours to my door.

Highly recommend their service :thumbright:

Was with RH as well, left them for a better deal with Brentacre. They even advised that my charger was undervalued an advused mecto have it revalued, then call them again.
Can’t fault them so far.

Brentacre £157 (unlimited, 250xs, £30K).
Cheaper than RH - so another great MMA deal. Thanks team.

I think I'd re-vist that valuation, Morgan.
Not sure you could source a black big block charger from the states as nice as yours landed for 30k?
Two up for sale recently at £80k+ - over the top, granted, but for insurance valuation purposes that's what counts, eh?

You flatter me sir. Mine is not in the same league as those 2 I assure you.
Last TonyO I had was 28-30. That was a couple of years ago i think. I'll dig it out, drop him a note and see if he thinks it needs revisiting. :thumbright:

Definitely worth getting yours valued again Morgan, mine was at 28k. After speaking to Brentacre and being advised to revalue it I spoke to Matt and it was increased to 38k.

I had a renewal letter thru from RH too, they said that the renewal price includes an increase in Insurance Premium Tax, which went up to 12% last June.... yada yada...

Good time to try Brentacre, i thought, esp as we need to up the Satellites value that's been at £20k for the last 4 or 5 years. A quick word with Tony O and some advice from JC when we spoke at Brands a week or so ago, and we have a new value of £32k  to get quotes on.

Spoke to Brentacre yesterday and after about 3 phone calls totalling maybe 40 mins (including about 10 mins of them trying to find Stuarts garage on Google maps to see where £70k's worth of cars are being kept  ), we got a quote for agreed values of £40k for the Dodge and £32k for the Plymouth. Their quote was for £219 for the Dodge and £348 for the Plym. The ass-about-face premium vs value is down to their policy of asking BHP on modified cars. Cos i was honest and said the Plymouth has a replacement engine of 8 litres, they asked the BHP, which perhaps foolishly i said was 600 (from Koffels dyno). Praps i should have been more conservative and said 450 or 500?
I asked about MMA discount and they said those prices include all discount they can offer (so word of advice here - ask about MMA discount after getting your quote, that way you can see if discount is actually being applied).
Also, after asking what annual mileage we wanted, I said max 3000 for each (he said there would be a slight difference in premium for 1000, 2000 or 3000), the premium they quoted includes unlimited mileage. He said they couldn't change that to limited to reduce the price.

So I've just been back to RH and asked for a new quote to increase the value as above.
Last years premium with RH was £321.53 FOR BOTH CARS (Dodge at £40k, Plym at £20k). This years renewal quote was £348.11.
After 5 mins on the phone to RH, they want just £10.32 extra for the increase in agreed value.
So i've just renewed with them for £358.42 for both.

I know it's not just about the cost of the insurance but how they deal with any claims, but not being able to compare that part of their service, I'm not prepared to pay Brentacre almost double on the off chance that they are better to deal with if and when we have a claim.

Sorry it did not work out for you with Brentacre on this occasion.

The old moral of the story is "shop around" - I'm doing the same with my motorcycle insurance and that is proving to be really tough...

Ive always been with RH and unlimited mileage cover with windscreen, legal and breakdown cover has never exceeded £100. Granted my car isn't worth anything near the value of a Charger but will try Brentacre this year if my premium is much more than last years.

On the same subject, my insurance renewal for my C180 Merc came in last month at £690. I spent 10 mins on the net and got the same cover with another company (same underwriters too) for £420. Now that difference is my road tax for the year....worth shopping around!

cheers Steve :thumbright:

I shop around every year for my dailies, using Go Compare usually. Just over £200 for my Alfa 159 1.8 petrol turbo.
