Fuel return

Post by kma176 »

Has anyone set-up a fuel return when using Manual High volume fuel pump??
I was going to use a Holley regulator and run the return from that-after explaining this to 'Holley tech' they went into great detail telling me best way to plumb in. After checking out the recommended parts - according to the website it states not to use with manual pump!!!! :banghead: :banghead:

Most people do not bother with a mechanical pump as the pressure is quite low.

Most people even dead head Holley Blue pumps with a Regulator.

I've not done it with a high pressure mechanical pump but I don't see why you couldn't. Assuming you have a dual inlet holley, feed from the pump to a tee, one branch to the float bowl the other to another tee. One branch off that to the other float bowl, the other to a side port of a holley regulator, block off the other side. Bottom port is the return to the tank. Set up that way you have unrestricted fuel flow to the carb and you control the fuel pressure by adjusting what you return to the tank with the regulator. Your fuel pressure gauge would need to be on the fuel pump side of the regulator to read correctly.

Thanks for the input
Running the system the way you said Blue I was going to use a Holley 12-887.
I have a 3/8" line for feed do you think a 5/16" return would be ok or should it be 3/8"
Can the gauge be fitted to the reg or in the line before?

Using that reg it looks like it would work with the gauge in the reg port. I think a 5/16" line would be sufficient for the return, you shouldn't need to flow a great deal of fuel back to keep the pressure where you want it.
