i think most mopar bellhousings are 7.5 inch front face to back....

input shaft on an a833 7.8 inches rounded to 7 3/4 by many depends how ya measure

3 speed boxes from the early 60s may well have had longer

the only auto box i know of with a removable bell used in a mopar was an aussie Borgwarner 35... bellhousing is short as it was not designed to have a clutch release bearing and fork in it.

although maybe 1950s autos had removable

an aussie 318 bellhousing bolts up to an aussie single rail 4 speed borg warner (Aus South africa and indonesia used them)
that 4 speed box was used in mopars and fords (falcon/cortina/escort... and valiant) 1 factory made axles and gearboxes for GM Ford and mopar in OZ
so you can get a ford box that in theory bolts to an aussie mopar bellhousing, i used one on an adapter for my T5 because my car has/had that box

Well it looks like ive bought the wrong bellhousing :banghead:

Just been out and measured mine, If your saying that most are 7.5in = 19cm

Mines 8.7in = 23cm plus my adapter plate 12mm = 24.2cm :?

Looks like I need to start again then, ally bellhousing new flywheel new starter :?

well not necessarily

don't take my word on the 7.5 inch we need input from someone else

and you may find you truck bell housing has a hole in it that is the same size as one of the a833 bellhousings in which case your adapter is still good

the truck flywheel might be too big

starter will be fine most mopar bellhousings space the starter from the flywheel so that the standard 35mm pinion works

mopar trans info
http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=113
and lots here with casting numbers and the size of the input bearing retainer i.e the hole you need in the bell

looks like this indicates the passenger cars bells were 7.38 inches but as i say seems to depend how you measure
https://www.dippy.org/upgrade/diptrans.html

you can get a t5 to 318 housing that uses a ford ball pivot clutch fork from either castlemaine rod shop or dellow conversions in oz but neither is cheap. they make the bellhousings so that you more or less have to buy all of the rest of the kit from them

maybe a trip to see duncan watts or a call to see what he has

1) he does transmissions
2) he has lots of parts

I have a car bell housing at home I can measure, it's cast iron but the transmission to block spacing will be the same as an aluminium car housing.

Thats great thanks :thumbright: well not great really, as I need to buy a car bellhousing now :?

That's 1.5in shallower than mine, that will make all the difference to where the T5 input shaft will be

Obviously you need the correct diameter flywheel for the bell housing, cars are 130 tooth and I think trucks are usually 143.
