Odd fitting help

Trying to find a weird fitting and can’t quite find what I’m looking for, so after the help and advice of the engineers in here, please.

I’m after fitting a t-handle to the top of a hollow metal tube. The t-handle has a has a thread hole in it, 3/8” - 16 thread. I am trying to find a fitting that will slot into the tube and expand to hold it secure, that I can then thread the correct size bar into it to screw the t handle onto. (Hope that makes sense… )

I’ve been searching for all sorts of expanding / expansion fittings and can’t find anything suitable. Any ideas if this exists and what the correct terminology would be to search for?

I can’t think of an off the shelf solution. You need someone with a lathe to turn up a 22mm bung that’s an interference fit into the handle then drill and tap it to take a piece of 3/8” studding to accept the handle.

What is the application for this?

Operating Parameters - does it have to take high pressure, oil resistance, etc?

I am sure there must be other options.

Not quite, Andy.

It’s a random one, Pete, I’m making a walking stick out of a medical (metal) cane and a shifter t-bar, so needs to not fall out and be able to take downward and lateral pressure.

Possibly right, Blue, may be bespoke is the only way, but finding someone to do just one may not be easy. Don’t know anyone with a lathe!

expanding shield anchor bolt... if you can find one big enough???

will need to dismantle add a nut onto the bolt
put back togther
do up tight so it expands into the tube
locktite and lock it off with your additional nut
then cut off the head of the bolt....

could probably do similar with a pipe expander tool used when making pipes with bigger diameter slip fit sections

but in theory as blue has said drilled tapped and studed (stud of desired size for youtr T knob) plug, press fit or press fit and rivited into the tube as per the standard set up on most sets of NHS crutches is ya best bet

Cheers Dave, funnily enough that’s one of the options I found, but couldn’t decide if it would work or not.

Think Blue is probably right on best bet for this one.
