Hello guys
I am about to spend the day fettling (the Coronet!!) but wondered.......
How are the shift levers for column autos supposed to be attatched to the slot on the column and are they supposed to be sprung and have a clutch so you cant accidentally select any gear at any time?
Mine is just fastned with a wing nut.
It pivots but forward or backwards movements do not make any difference...you can select a gear wherever it is.
I love the column vibe but if its knackered, wouldnt mind a floor shifter.
How does the floor shifter take over from the column in terms of attatching to the 'box
column shifter

Yup, same as my Truk- and my spring had bust too!
I just experimented with a few springs in my spring tub til i found one the right size & springyness.
If you can't find a roll pin i'm sure a bolt & locknut would do just fine, perhaps not as neat tho!
There's a stepped piece of metal which acts as a gate and that's what keeps the selector lever in each gear. Mine is pretty badly worn but still works-ish, felt a lot better with a spot of grease tho...
Cos it didn't work at 1st i converted to a floor shift and it was kinda ok, fixed the coloumn shift and it's sooo cool i love it
