Short answer - I don't know exactly. Once you have the MOT (and American docs) you go to the DVLA office, officially the car has to be inspected and there's some paperwork and a fee. I think they can give you a tax disc there and then though, if it all checks out (I'm sure someone else will chime in with some advice thats actually helpful, lol!).

If you have all of the correct documents and if they are happy with your proof of the actual age of the car then they will issue you a year related registration there and then. All you have to do then is get your plates made up.
They can be a bit difficult if they decide you are trying to pull a fast one on the age in order to get free road tax. If they are ask to see their supervisor and give him a lecture.

The last few I have done at the local DVLA office , they would not issue registration at the counter - said it was now not policy to do this.
All paperwork was in order - docs were retained for 'checks' , and registration no was issued about a week later .

Oh, sounds quite easy guys thanks!!
Pretty much just the time it takes to give it a quick tune up, M.O.T and registaration and I'll be away.

when i registered the fury they told me that they would not issue my number plate immediatley even if i went to the registration office.
did it all by post in the end took about two weeks.
make sure you have every bit of documentation or its a no go.
