Help Removing Steering Wheel

It’s a 2-spoke rim blow type, got the cover off, un-done centre nut. Now, there’s 2 threaded holes in the steering wheel hub either side of the steering column shaft. Can I drive a couple of bolts into these holes till they bottom out and lift the wheel off?? or do I need a puller?? Or something else??

Thanks in advance

Best to use a puller. You are right, you wind in a couple of bolts and then wind the puller in against the centre nut (which you have left on a couple of turns to stop it flying off in your face). It shouldn't be stuck on too hard.

I just use a scrap bit of 1/4" thick steel bar. Two holes through it for the two bolts to pass through and sit it over the center stud.
It will pull the wheel up nice and steady.

Never use force or a hammer on a steering column as many have collapsable parts in them for safety in a crash.

Thanks guys. I had a go last night but the puller I was using obviously isn’t the correct one and I couldn’t get a decent hold on it. It does appear to be on quite tight?? Thought of your method too Dave but didn’t have any suitable materials to hand

Alex; any chance of a borrow please?? I’ll give you a call later

Cheers
