Here is a suggestion. Take the head off and fit a new head gasket.

Dave - c'mon, 99% of everyone wouldn't want to swap their own (engine) head. Plus, it might be an awkward job in the landy's inner wings are a tight fit ...

Personally I'd love to see pics of the install of this motor, be interesting to see how its rigged :)

I am timing the quickness of the response "What do you mean lately?".

Hang on, I think I know what the problem is here

Dave, you need a hug dont you

Well I think we should make the Saturday of the Nats the official Hug - a - Dave day.

Anyone who sees Dave on Saturday should give him a big hug so all that grumpiness can just drift away. :D :nike:

Sounds like a kill-or-cure solution ...

Well I tell you what James, you can go first mate and I will stand back to see how he reacts. If he lashes out when you hug him we will leave it at that. I will try and come up with some other, less dangerous idea

That said, I think deep down, he really is just a big softee, so go on, hug him. :D

Back on thread, I reckon a 360cui lump in a land rover really is a tight fit. Changing a head gasket wouldnt be too easy.

Mate of mine has got a 6.9 GMC diesel V8 in his land rover. If you dropped a packet of peanuts into the engine bay, I dont think any would reach the floor.

Helped fit a Rover V8 in one once. Quite an easy job. 2WD only though. Been in a factory built twin turbo V8 powered one once. Not much room in the engine bay with that one.

Potential silly question and a bit off topic:

How were the two turbos fitted and where? How was the air forced into the carb? Was it some kid of super dooper two into one duct or something???

Rover V8's arent a problem in them as they were a factory option in the earlier defender models and later series 3's.

360 in a landrover...... tight fit maybe....... broken halfshafts, transmissions and all the other gubbins inbetween flywheel and tyres guaranteed.

2 Mates of mine did this a few years back, one used a AMC 360 the other used a Mopar 360, used to do a lot of offroading and trials then but NO ONE dare stand too close to either of these Landrovers when they were competing as you never knew what was going to get spat off, propshafts were regular
Shame it's not closer to me i'd have done it

...oh, and I forgot to say, a bone stock Rover V8 in a Defender is about as pointless as tits on a bull :? But, one with two turbo's????? Different story I should think.

I got a nice one last year from Ivor. I didn't hurt him but he made my eyes water I can tell you.
