Pure Fabrication

Post by Holly »

I've been doing a bit of the Daytona's bodywork, was hoping to get it looking tidy for the Nats but it's taking a little longer than I'd hoped as Kate is still in a bad way ...

Anywho, I'm a bit proud of what I've managed so far, given my budget of £0, this is the third bit I've fabricated, the bottom 8" or so of the front wings (when I have £70 spare I'll just buy a new one, but this will do for the mo :)).

I've decided not to bother with the sills, I'll get someone that knows what they're doing to replace them (the outer isn't strictural and the inner is fine), Six-Pack-Speedshop gave me a very good price on them new so hopefully I'll be able to get that done some time after Christmas ...

looking good there James, I find that kerbstones and lamp posts (street lights) are good for varying curves as well, keep your eyes open for the council though, they don't seem to agree :D

I must admit there's a certain amount of satisfaction in beating the hell out of a piece of metal after a day in the office :)

Handy tip about lampposts - I've been using my knee, the c-section and various bits of wood, lol. Had trouble with a thin strip at the bottom of the rear quater, it needed a complex curve but I ended up with something a bit too angular so it's going to need up to 1/8" of filler to look right ... still, better than some of the efforts I've found on other cars, lol.

Don't hit lamp posts too hard. The old ones at least are cast iron and are very brittle.......
