Seat Belts

Post by Anonymous »

The buckles in my stock seat belts are not holding, and I want to put shoulder belts in the rear bench seat. I would prefer to keep a stock look, but I don't want any compromise on safety. Anyone have any good references on UK or US suppliers?

The car is question is a 70 R/T Charger, stock black interior, bucket seats with separate lap and shoulder belts.

Yeah, welcome to the board!...is it Henry or Henrietta?

If you've got a black interior, no problem at all, it's the colour coded belts that might be difficult...what's your interior colour?

"an ideal difficult to reconcile with ownership of a '70 charger I would have thought"
Indeed, it's a worked 440 pistol grip and I have found it distracting when I am busy panicking trying to slow the thing down and the seat belt pops!

If you are not fussy about exact 1970 Charger spec type belts have a look at www.jcwhitney.com
They do old style lap/shoulder belts or more modern retractable types for around $20 a set if I remember right.

If you want a good restoration on your belts have a look at http://www.ssnake-oyl.com/ as they will take your belts and completely re-build them.

A UK based repairer of seatbelts is

Bill Davis
F D T S Ltd
Highfield Works
1 & 3 Parvis Road
West Byfleet
Surrey
KT14 6LP
01932 342043

I bought nissan patrol once where a dog had chewed up one of the belts, this place installed new webbing to it. Even matched the colour.

not sure if they can fix buckles etc, but that may be easy to repair or replace from a junkyard.

Hi from a fellow 70 R/T owner :D

Not sure where you're located but if you have a Marine chandlery near you ask them for black toestrap webbing - it's a very close match.

I sell it in my shop at ?2.27 a metre and use someone locally (Brighton) to do the stitching.

Hope this helps
