rattling/knocking tranny???

rattling/knocking tranny???
after beding stood for 10 years, we got the engine rebuilt and bk in, and running real good, but we'v got a bad rattling/knoking sound coming from the gear box, we'r gunna run it up the road tomorrow night through the gears and see wot happens, or is it just Bananarama!???

have you tightened the flex plate bolts to engine, torque converter bolts to flex plate, has it got the trans lower shield could the converter bolt heads be hitting it, its quite common

well just had the charger outside on the ramps and got the old stethascope out and at its loudest point the noise is at the inspection plate on the trans so its bk in the carport and we'r gunna drop the sarter whip the plate off and try it without, did check all flex plat bolts they are the shallow head bolts and all were tight let you no wot happens in a couple off hour

Didn't make any difference with ours. We used the same bolts and the same bell housing cover and it only started after we put it back together.
Didn't seem to matter how much we bashed it about with the old all-purpose-multi-tool ('Ammer) just couldn't stop them fouling. You could clearly see the scuff marks every time. Ended up cutting the centre section out of the plate to shut the damn thing up.

Just swapped the engine again this weekend (TWICE!!!
DON'T ASK!!!
) and tried to fit a new plate. Guess whet happened.....
We are now running without one at all.
