I personally do not like Crane rockers. I dislike the separator springs even more. But seeing as you have them you may as well use them.
Watch your fingers on the shims though. They are like razor blades.

These are my rockers.
Designed specifically for better geometry on the 440.
Held on with studs instead of bolts.
Very heavy billet steel shaft hold-downs and separators. Centered on the valve tips and adjusted for tight oil clearance using shims.

Mounted on banana grooved shafts for better oiling.

Make sure you put your rocker shafts on the right way around mind. They only go on one way you know?

Some people turn up spacers for the Cranes that then may need shimming.

Were you at the NEC Julian, did I talk to you on the Sporting Bears stand?

That Audi's a bit of a monster too.

I was fortunate enough to drive one of those (looks like you have the same the SWB version I had) when they were new...awesome piece of kit and you had to be some sort of a driver to keep up with one cross country, whatever you were driving.

Reference the rockers. I didn't much care for the Crane seperator springs so I've just bought some thick wall ally tube. It's slightly too small on the internal diameter but it will hopefully open out to a nice fit with my adjustable hand reamers. I'll part it off carefully with my lathe so hopefully there will be no need for zillions of spacers.

That's pretty much what I did with the last set of Cranes I had, the springs were causing problems. 440 Source do some nice spacers and billet hold downs for not a lot of dosh, I'd use those in future.

I just read his articles. They seem honest enough. The parts do what they say on the tin. You get a straight answer to a straight question.

Dave Hughes has been a master engine builder since 1968 or something. You can't just dismiss what the guy says out of hand. Like him or not.

Dave, out of interest what make are your roller rockers??

Roller rockers are next on my shopping list and I was wondering what would work best with my edlebrock performer rpm heads.

When I was speccing stroker parts it was a toss up between Racer Brown and Hughes.
