Yoke won't fit on Pinion splines

Anyone any experience of Ford 9" diffs?
I've picked up a used (ex-Nascar) ring & pinion and a forged yoke. The yoke starts to go on but jams 1/4" in. If i 'assist' it with a big hammer it'll go on 1/2" but it gets a lot tighter.
There's visible wear on the splines on the bit i can get the yoke on.
My 1st thought was that the splines had distorted but now i'm wondering if they're actually different sizes and they only start cos they're worn

Would they make 'em so close but not the same?
Bought from ebay U.S. so no returns or help there.
Totally stumped here

No real knowledge of any Ford axles, but a quick glance here,

Seems to suggest they come in 28 or 35 spline and that's it....

I reckon any of the UK chassis builders could tell you for sure.

I'm sure this is answered on here already somewhere but it's late and my heads battered now...
How do i tell what yoke i have? i.e. 1350/ 1330 etc?

Run it , if it breaks there not the 1350s.

SORTED

Spent a week with a very fine file & fine sandpaper reprofiling the pinion teeth. I marked all the teeth with a marker pen then slid the yoke on & off in all 28 positions. Wherever the pen was worn off i skimmed a bit off with the file, smoothed it with sandpaper and repeated the process. About a hundred times

felt like that anyway

Now it slides on lovely and smooth with no play

I've shimmed me pinion and bolted it to the main housing, welded up a stand and fitted the ring gear assembly so now it's adjustment time.
