I measure the clearance with a big cardboard template

I think Blue mentioned the key words there "Vintage wheels"...if Jem's going for some period Ansens, Halibrands, Fentons or something, the backspacing is going to be very shallow.
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

If and when I can find them Ivor! I'll most proably go with Torq Thrust D's - they still have the shallow back space though.

Hopefully in a couple of months i'll be selling my slightly narrowed 8 3/4 case (51 1/4" flange to flange) c/w Strange shafts, ladder bars, Gabriel coilovers, off the Belvedere.
You'd have to wait til i've installed me 9" tho....

Thanks db but I think 51 1/4 is going to be too narrow - shame!.
I intend to put 10" rims on the Belvedere - what size rims are you running?

Blue wrote:Wheel offset is the problem. If you want to use a vintage wheel (as Jem doe's), you are stuck with 3 3/4" backspace or less, whether the rim is a 7", 8" or 10". The Tyre's on there now only fit because the sidewalls are pulled right in by using a 7" rim which is really too small. I will move the springs in and minitub it, then cut the axle to suit the rims. No other way around it if you have a certain look in mind. Apart from "Waltonizing" the arches of course :-k
Hey blue. with a bit more work you could get it to look like this............. 8-)

I'm not a great lover of 60's cars, but that looks a real beaut :thumbright:

Not sure what wheels were on that axle Jem but i think they were shod with 10" slicks when Hugh had it. See pics below...

My Ford axle is VERY short cos i'm going mental with 18" M/Ts :D

Chers db. 56" sounds a lot more realistic. I'll do some careful measuring
at the weekend. What gears are in there by the way?
