For file fit rings you'll be needing one of these, works so much better than a live angle grinder clamped between your knees..

I bought a pair of rod bolt extensions and a bore specific tapered piston installer. I can highly recommend them, the pistons slip in really easily compared to any other method I've used.

Blue, they are a good tool & an angle grinder just doesn't compare.

I would advise practising on an old ring, in order to get the feel for material removal. Once I got into the habit, it was quick & accurate.

Bit like spiro locs, pain in the arse at first, but once you get into a rythem not too bad, fingers ache for a while though :D

Yea, I struggled with the first few spiro loks, but once you get the hang of it they are pretty easy to fit. Sod getting them out though....

I gave a set to Geof Hauser to use on my engine once.

He gave me them back and used his usual clips.

Tapered piston installer looks a helpfull tool, much better than my expandle spring steel type I have.

As for the rod bolt extensions, I just use festo plastic tubing, nice snug fit & stops bolts from causing any scratching, nicks, etc. cheap solution & worked fine for me
