It was me that found the info for her Pete. I just did a quick search, and it seems that Seat are much less willing to help than VW, despite sharing the same components. In any case, you may be out of luck because even VW have a cut off date of 8 years for warranty work. Her Polo was still within that.
The problem seems to be that the clutch gets stiffer due to worn components, and puts excessive stress on the flimsy pedal box. So you might want to change the clutch/pressure plate to prevent it happening again. Or sell it and get a proper car.
Polo pedal boxes should have been recalled, done a few and days job and not a nice one. had a few done under dealership bit they will argue the clutch pressure is due to the fact that it has fractured.
Was the clutch a bit stiff?
Damn! Joe has just left for a weeks holiday, I would have got him to come round and have a look at it for you. If you need help next week, I will have a word.
That would be great thanks, Jeff - I am not rushing on this one.
No recalls so I guess it is either a dealer job, mechanic, or I will have to roll my sleeves up....
Well, sincere thanks to Ryan (Blown360) and Richard for their input.
We got a really nice guy locally to help with the welding in situ and the car is sorted; what a relief!
Thanks once again for all your assistance and ideas.
