Front brakes holding on (Linelock?)

Post by Dave-R »

After bleeding the brakes I have found the front discs are being held on as if the line lock was engaged (it isn't).

Opening the bleed nipple or brake line downstream of the line lock releases the brake. So I suspect something is up with that.

Any ideas?

One thought I had.
Have I got the line lock the right way around?

I have hooked it up so that the end on the right in the photo is "IN" and the left side "OUT".

Is this the right way around? :?

One other funny thing I found.

After bench bleeding and bleeding the brake lines though I found a small leak on one of the new braided lines where it had not been tightened up fully.

Now I have just taken the braided hose off the line lock and no fluid has leaked out??

Would trapped air hold the brakes on tight?

Is there an 'in out' stamped on the solinoid? , went through a couple of bad solinoids out the box , can you hear the line lock 'clicking' when you switch it on or off? , maybe just the wrong way round Dave , maybe someone can post the instruction sheet for it.

I have an instruction sheet but it looks like it was drawn by a 5 year old and there is no In and OUT marked on the solenoid that I can see.

It does "click" when you power it.

Looks like you have it plumbed the wrong way round Dave. You'll find the instructions here,

That's it Blue. Thanks.

The bit not shown on my instructions is the bit below taken from that link. On my instructions it looks the other way around on the crap drawings.

Well I turned the solenoid around but it will still not pass fluid in one direction. So now it is the other way around it will not apply (or bleed) the brakes. It is acting like a one-way valve.

Guess I need a new one.

Anyone know if there is anyone in the UK that stocks this type of linelock?

I think this is my own doing. Another problem caused by working while not completely "with it" last year.
I seem to remember taking the line lock apart for some reason. Maybe because it had come loose in some way.
I suspect there should be a spring around the outside of the plunger to hold the seal open until the solenoid is engaged. I must have dropped it or lost it or something without realising.

I have found a few things on the car lately that are not right. So I have been very carefully going through everything again to double check if I did anything else "mad".

Found I had connected up the GV overdrive to a permanent live instead of switched the other day. Why did I do that? :x

No wonder I get confused.

Same part. Different name on it. Opposite way around. :?
