Im liking this...very trick little car...gonna upset quite a few B/B cars i feel

Just a thought should nt the Pump be lower than the fuel level in the cell to help it out,.. draw + heat build up v gravity ?

I know what you`re saying Allkiller but this set up seems to work. All pumps are self priming so it isn`t an issue if it is above or below the tank. I`m not using a return line to keep weight down. Also I`m using a fuel line cooler and then a fuel regulator just before the carburettor .... the set up worked well all last year.

Having said that pump may not last as long installed this way ?????

Because vane type pumps blow better than they suck if you like, it's always better to gravity feed them for maximum flow. I used to have a holley pump that would cavitate because it was higher than the tank, Had to blow down the tank filler to get it to pump fuel  My car must be made of lead 'cos I can't get it anywhere near that weight for some reason.

Fitting the new wheels, discs and calipers today and weighed the new ones versus the old ones.

Old wheels + old discs + old calipers = 39.5 kg
New wheels + new discs + new calipers = 23.7 kg

Overall weight saving = 31.6 kg ( 69.5 lbs )

And that`s just one mod.

My Wilwoods had to go on a drum brake spindle, rather than disc spindles. Perhaps that is the difference?

Thanks Kev

These spindles I made from the old disk spindles that were on the car.

Shame you`re not still around ... could have had a bit of head to head Valiant racing.

I love reading threads like this...I wonder if the Valiants were lighter than the later Darts to start with...I thought Blue's was about as light as you could get!
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

wel ivor there is something very odd with it, we took the critical cuda to be weighed yesterday and it came in at a staggering 2,904lbs that is well heavy considering the whole front is glass and the car looks light,
i thoughty it would have been circay 2,600

so we got an honest 820hp, :D :D

Well you won't get a lighter driver will you? :D

820 hp? Now that would go nice in the Valiant! :thumbright:

I just checked my weight ticket in case I had made a mistake and it was definately 1128 Kg before the last bit of weight loss.

1128 kg - 31 Kg ( wheel mods ) - 3 Kg ( boot floor etc ) = 1094 Kg ( 2406 lbs ) MAX. WITHOUT DRIVER.

Plus other weight to come out too

Hmm, after a bit of thinking, I can can see where I have a big chunk of weight. My car was weighed at full street weight, which is what I race at, so that includes full exhaust system, 70lbs of battery and 16 gallons of fuel. That little lot tot's up to 286lb by my calculations  After Pete's episode, using 16 gallons of fuel as ballast isn't the brightest of ideas. Little project for the winter then...
