Anyone fitted a tow bar?

Post by paolo_mangusta »

Has anyone on here fitted a tow bar to their old Mope? I'm thinking of putting one on the Dart and wondered if anyone had any pointers, either for a company in the South East who could be trusted to fit one without too much hacking, or other cars I could scavenge suitable bits off to do it myself?

Cheers

I have a '62 "B" body tow bar you can copy if you wish.

cheers Pete, that'd help me in the right direction - is it mounted on a car or loose, so to speak? Even if I could see a pic of it it might help me work out a plan.

Not much, just want to do it by the spring so I can tow the slingshot :-)

(which also has to be done by the spring!)

I could take it to the swap meet and you could take some dimensions off it?

That'd be great, but I don't want to put you out too much, especially if I'm not sure how well it would translate to a '70 A-body - I'll have a closer look at the car and do a bit more digging on t'internet and let you know (if that's ok)

Cheers for the help :)

John R has one on his Barracuda I think, and I have a Valiant Charger one here which is 1973 A body, but came off a 69, so is probably the same as what you need. Its quite substantial.

cheers Matt, that's a really useful pic. I haven't any way of bending tube so I might have to make something similar by cutting square tubing but really useful to see how it mounts

yep have one on the car and made it myself will get a pic now that it is off , very simple to make just a couple of bits of angle bent in the right place and some flat plat mine fits under the bumper irons and comes down to fix under the spare wheel well quite strong if you put a plate in the well
