Lambda Wideband Gauge

Post by GTXJim »

I'm thinking of buying lambda gauge, for tuning my motor but there is an awful lot out there, what's good and what should I be looking for, AEM looks ok also the bosch sensors are either 4.2 or 4.9? They have different types some that you download into a laptop and some you can send by wifi to your phone, and how easy are they to tune your carb to?

Do you want a recordable divice or just a gauge you can look at?

For just $200 you can have a fast responding gauge. If you want to record things like RPM, vacuum/boost, throttle position etc you want some sort of data logging facility. http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/

Ive got an AEM. but not used in anger yet
comes with all you need including the weld in bungs and about 3 faces and bezels

standard mounting

this one
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AEM-GAUGE-6-in-1- ... 45eff60fa0

has serial output for logging

just use hyperterminal in windows

has other outputs to act as input to megasquirt or igntion

typical modern plastic guage light as a feather so that doesn't inspire confidnece

but the leads and sensor are top quality

sensor is pre calibrated bosch wide band

ad the gauge can be configured to display so or 3 different ways of measureing air fule ratio
and be set up for alcohol and either diesel or bio fuel i think as well as race fuel and standard

lead in the fuel tends to knack them 50% faster

Drop Roger a PM, he has a lot of experience with these, he advised me to steer clear of Innovate as there are better and cheaper alternatives. On his advise I bought a PLX which I'm very happy with.

I've got the Innovate LC1 with a G4 analogue type gauge under the dash. Never had any problems and wouldn't be without it now. Theres a cable under the dash to plug it into the laptop but I've never even tried it. Just wanted a gauge I can see at all times.

I have the AEM for the reasons that Dave999 mentions. I can use it standalone, connect to a datalogger, laptop or whatever.

I had an LM1 prior to that and thought it was an overpriced pile of Bananarama!

Decide what you want to actually monitor.

Like i asked in my first reply, do you just want a air/fuel monitor or do you want to be able to download it to a laptop?
Do you want to record more than just A/F ratio? If so what?

Decide those things and then you can see what is on the market to do the job and compare.

Next time I will probably just get one of these.

Im looking for a Air/fuel gauge to check the running of my cars, could you make this work as a 'portable unit' ie make a clamp to stick the sensor up the end of the exhaust? would this give false readings?

Was just thinking the same thing after reading the installation instructions on this AEM unit.
Anyone?

A self heating wideband sensor works fine pushed up the pipe (he he). The innovate systems have an optional clamp for doing this.
