Orange box, where to put it.

Post by Derek »

Below is a pic of where I'm thinking of putting my orange box, It will be on brackets about 1/2 inch high and will have plastic washer to try and stop the heat transferring to it, Is this a good or bad place to put it, has anyone else put theirs there.

I would not put it anywhere that would subject it to vibration.

Firewall or inner fender near the front so it stays cool. MUST have a good earth, but I am sure you know that ;)

Mine's on the inner fender near the alternator, so is the coil. Chrysler located them where Jim's is, I wouldn't bolt it to the engine.

I can't put it on the firewall, It's an air con car so i don't have the room, 3 sets of pipes come out the fire wall, looks like it might be the inner wing again.

On a B-body you often have to put them on the horizontal portion of the inner wing. Near the windscreen washer bottle is a good cool place and handy for the coil too.

seen a lot over on the US sites mounted on the back of the intake , but as Dave says need to be cooler place as possible , same really for the coil , ( been meaning to move mine !! will do sometime) , this is where i mounted my orange box , make sure it is grounded well also , like the voltage regulator , i run a extra ground wire to each , cause i'm nutts like that :?
this is the only picture i have on the computer , if anyone wants closer picture , let me know

Have mine there too :thumbright:

Was concerned at first in case it wasnt that water tight and secondly, if it was ok mounted vertically

Need`nt have worried though, all is good :)

Mine was mounted far top left of pipes good flat area, also an aircon car.
Not much room on inner wing with aircon unit and hoses.I mounted the coil there, still havent made a proper bracket .Dont like it on engine and makes wiring neater ,IMO.

No photos im afraid.

Del, Paul Davey (Paul500) mounted his on the back of the inlet manifold like that, but he had a super dooper bracket made up and some heat sync attatchment because of the heat (obviously). He was adamant it shouldnt be seen trying to retain some originality buit had to do a fair bit of jiggery pokery to make sure it didnt get cooked.

If anyone really wanted to hide one the underside of the battery tray would be a good place.

Just a thought Del, but with a little bit of extra length in the wires how about mounting it on the inside, under the dash?
