It moves well because it only weighs 3,245lbs. Top speed is 170mph.
Yes, they really are a nice drive and have superb performance - great bang for the buck! My mate had a C5 and now has a C6 and I've driven both. Until recently I had a 2001 Z28 Camaro with the same LS1 lump, though I added a set of long tube headers, which turned it from very quick to very lethal - far too easy to lose control of the back end, though lots of fun :D

Before the headers it produced 299hp at the rear wheels (estimated 367 at the flywheel) and after having them fitted and tuned it produced 369 at the wheels with an estimated 450 at the flywheel. If you fancy a boost in power that is the way to go....though it was bloody loud after the headers went on, even with high flow cats.
thats some set of headers where do i get that make for me chally, ;) :D

I know it seems a huge increase and more than you might expect from just headers, but from the research I did before purchasing it seems that +50hp is about the norm on an LS1. The 20hp on top of that is probably not an actual gain and likely due to the fact that the before and after readouts came from different dynos. Both Dyno Dynamic machines, but still they all vary. Also, it should be remembered that the increase will have been not only from the LT's but from the tune itself. All in all seemed about right to me and certainly felt considerably quicker afterwards.

I've just gone back and checked on the forums I used to hang out on and you're both right....even 50hp is too much too expect...more like 30rwhp max with a tune. The rest of the difference must be false and down to differences in the calibration of the two dyno machines....either that or my original tune was way out! Definitely woke it up though...very noticeable.

Stock LS1 with a decent intake, longtube headers, high flow cats and an 85mm MAF, (if not already fitted) with a decent tune should net you 430bhp at the fly. (regardless of which particular "spec" model it is) Whack a set of SLP rockers in there and get another 15 on top of that.

Without headers, about 390-400.

These are real numbers in this country btw, not inflated US ones!!

Better still screw a magnuson blower on their and have 600 :):):)

Its gotta be the way forward, tuned late model running gear into early muscle shell, the technology and potential in these modern powerplants is really impressive :)
Just imagine all that late Vette or Camaro drivetrain under a '70 Z28, or a Hemi 300C giving up its blood and guts to live underneath a Challenger shell ;)

Just been checking out the option codes on the car.

It seems I have the Z51 performance Handling Package (includes power steering cooler, bigger sway bars etc) and a performance 3.13:1 axle ratio (standard is 2.73:1). :read2: :thumbright:

Just did a couple of jobs on the Corvette.

First job was simple. Just changed the front indicator bulbs because the orange coating was pealing off them. I say simple but you have to remove the front wheels and some of the inner wheel arch paneling to get one hand into them. So it was a bit of a fiddle.

Second job was initially just to make the coves in the side of the front fenders look better.
They are just holes in the plastic body with a black plastic inner liner. They just look cheap and unfinished to me so I ordered a pair of mesh screens to fit over them.

As it turned out this was a good idea as I found a huge amount of what amounts to compost filling the space behind there which is occupied by the computer etc. so that would not be doing it any good and the mesh should stop any other crap getting in there.

I was ripped off a bit on the mesh. It was an ebay find. The photo makes it look like some sort of plastic insert with the mesh behind?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/C5-CORVETTE-SIDE- ... 4159233703

All I got for my money was a bit of ally mesh you could get in B&Q for a couple of quid that was bent on the edges. It had some double sided tape on the edges but it was not up to the job so I used my own tape which is more sticky and twice as wide.

The finished result does look much better though. Fingers crossed the tape holds.

Good stuff, Dave.
I had some time off from building and spent the day working on Julie's C4 Corvette in readiness for the summer.

Did the parking brakes - shoes and cable adjustments; but i am still not convinced that they will get through a UK MOT - they are PARKING brakes, NOT emergency brakes.....

Decided to have all the calipers off in the end - I can see why the brakes seem deficient - the front pads are TINY. Great design but poorly executed.

Also sorted out the non working horn, which was a mare as the relay is under the centre console and the previous owner bodged the horn push.
All sorted and legal now :thumbright:

All the lights and electircs work - even the foglight so I hope the MOT will go smoothly. I am not used to working on a car you can't get a trolly jack under......
