thats some set of headers where do i get that make for me chally, yabadaba wrote:Yes, they really are a nice drive and have superb performance - great bang for the buck! My mate had a C5 and now has a C6 and I've driven both. Until recently I had a 2001 Z28 Camaro with the same LS1 lump, though I added a set of long tube headers, which turned it from very quick to very lethal - far too easy to lose control of the back end, though lots of funDave wrote:The LS1 5.7 engine produces 350bhp which with the 4-speed auto trans gives getting on for 300hp at the rear wheels. From 2001 - up you also got a lot more torque than previous versions.
It moves well because it only weighs 3,245lbs. Top speed is 170mph.
Before the headers it produced 299hp at the rear wheels (estimated 367 at the flywheel) and after having them fitted and tuned it produced 369 at the wheels with an estimated 450 at the flywheel. If you fancy a boost in power that is the way to go....though it was bloody loud after the headers went on, even with high flow cats.
I know it seems a huge increase and more than you might expect from just headers, but from the research I did before purchasing it seems that +50hp is about the norm on an LS1. The 20hp on top of that is probably not an actual gain and likely due to the fact that the before and after readouts came from different dynos. Both Dyno Dynamic machines, but still they all vary. Also, it should be remembered that the increase will have been not only from the LT's but from the tune itself. All in all seemed about right to me and certainly felt considerably quicker afterwards.Cannonball wrote:thats some set of headers where do i get that make for me chally, yabadaba wrote:Yes, they really are a nice drive and have superb performance - great bang for the buck! I've just gone back and checked on the forums I used to hang out on and you're both right....even 50hp is too much too expect...more like 30rwhp max with a tune. The rest of the difference must be false and down to differences in the calibration of the two dyno machines....either that or my original tune was way out! Definitely woke it up though...very noticeable.yabadaba wrote:from the research I did before purchasing it seems that +50hp is about the norm on an LS1.
Its gotta be the way forward, tuned late model running gear into early muscle shell, the technology and potential in these modern powerplants is really impressiveRoger wrote:Stock LS1 with a decent intake, longtube headers, high flow cats and an 85mm MAF, (if not already fitted) with a decent tune should net you 430bhp at the fly. (regardless of which particular "spec" model it is) Whack a set of SLP rockers in there and get another 15 on top of that.
Without headers, about 390-400.
These are real numbers in this country btw, not inflated US ones!!
Better still screw a magnuson blower on their and have 600:):)
