Pressure Hose leak

Post by yabadaba »

Guys, I've just replaced my power steering pressure hose as the old one was leaking where the two pieces of pipe join in the middle.

But now with the new hose I'm getting a leak from where it connects to the pump. With the nut tightened up so it just bites I had a stream of fluid coming from the joint when I started the engine, so now it's done up pretty much as tight as it will go with a spanner - I'd be scared to go any further - but it's still weeping a little fluid.

Any suggestions - should I be using some kind of jointing compound on the threads maybe?

Here's the connection where it's leaking from...

My first route would be to wrap the threads in ptfe tape, and while the union is out, check for cracks around the threaded section.
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

Thats an inverted flare fitting, the threads don't seal the fluid, the end of the pipe does. Check the end of the pipe is clean and there's nothing on the seating surface at the bottom of the thread.
