Rear spring hangers

Post by MattH »

VH Charger with factory fit rust.

What should the area around the rear spring hanger ahead of the rear wheel look like?
Mine has been plated badly and cutting it off it now looks like it should have had an access hole, not a complete plate over it.
Not sure if they are the same as most other US Mopes?

Can anyone post a pic of a non rusty one , Dave999??

I need an MOT before Friday and have to go to work this week too, or the pink rust bucket will be a no show at the Pod.

It probably had a hole to access the nuts or bolt heads to mount the front spring hangers?

will try my best

mine is on stands at the mo

and the gearbox is out for what was supposed to be a swift clutch swap

not anymore

won't arrive till thursday

however does this help

where do you expect the hole to be

in the hanger
or in the body?

Im talking about the body, and Dave may be right that it needs a big square hole to access the nuts for the spring hanger. Someone has just welded a big plate over the whole lot which ahs rotted away.
My 1;18th scale model shows a square hole and the nuts weren't accessible until the rust rotted out the bodged on plate.

Have a look here, there are photo's that should answer your questions, I know it's E body but the front hanger mounts are pretty much the same on all 60's and '70's Mopars.

Pete that is very rust free looking under there!!
Dave999 that is the square hole, so we Aussie owners have beefed up mounts as standard :thumbright:

Thanks for the advice and help on this, I was about to weld a plate on like the last one but Blue's toruqe box explanation emans I dug a little further a decided to try and do the job properly rather than cover it up again like it was by the last owner.

However the more you dig.......

Will have to carry on tomorrow after work, mustn't really angle grind at 11pm, neighbours don't like it.
So I am hoping to weld up, try to get it running, MOT thursday morning before work, fix MOT failures early Friday and get the car to the Nats.

Mandie said what's the point of owning it if I dont take it to the Nats?

Nuff said really, I just should have started a few more weeks ago
