Hi Longshot

I went for the Wilwoods and am very happy with them

I`m sure someone will correct me but I am sure they do 2 flavours ; superdooper lightweight race and a heavier job for street / strip

Used a Wilwood brake master cylinder + reservoirs and ditched all the Mopar bits

You`re welcome to have a look if you want ( or see page 2 and 3 of Valiant thread )

I looked into this for mine a few years back,. Very mixed reviews on SSBC and lots of $s
Jon is right about Willwood, they do a street and lightweight strip version.

I did a lot of research and found very mixed views.

Another option is to do the Dodge Viper conversion which will bolt onto those spindles. Then there is the Scarebird conversion set up to allow cheap conversion to either Ford or Chevy discs, can't remember which...

Miles the spindles for the viper disc conversion you have to use are the later 1973 on drum spindles (rocking horse poo) I sure that Longshot has the pre 1973 drum spindles

thanks Jon- i will give Chris a ring.
Dave, yes they are the earlier spindles but luckily they are the 10 inch ones
which all the kits seem to fit.

willwoods are looking the fave. :thumbright:

Longshot they are both 10in spindles and look the same but the bolt holes and offset differently I made the same mistake you have to get the part number off the spindles to make sure that they are the right ones. I know by a costly mistake that the early ones don't fit the Viper conversion and the are still being used as a door stop. I think the best way to go is to do what Anton did.

Maybe consider the Dave 999 route of Hilux caliper conversion?

Dave, does that mean if you have 10 inch drums from factory that it could still have 9 inch drum spindles? :?

no doubt your typing sitting in the sun with a cocktail and cigar

you need Girlock 1 pot slider disk spindles for the landcruiser job US or AUS
drum brake spindles would be an issue
unless you make a bracket to bolt onto the drum back plate mounts for the caliper and fit any disk you like with appropriate offset.

all aussie front ends are small balljoint regardless of PCD for the hubs
and all, well 99.99% had disks from 69 onwards
i think they would fit a dart no probs

the beauty of the Toyota calipers is

4 pot calipers take a greater volume of brake fluid
so with the mopar MC
you get more progressive braking with slightly longer peddle travel
and the joy of better pad support during application to the disk
from a cliper designed to stop a heavier vehicle with a bigger rolling diameter of wheel (once chunky tyres are taken into consideration)
also they take the same shaped pads as some of the wilwood and many modern nissan Z cars meaning friction compound choice is endless

still heavyish calipers mind

but at £ 40 a go for rebuilders off ebay
and rebuild kits about £60 from your local Toyota/lexus place

its quite attractive proposition

other option would be aussie VJ disk set up (or just the stubs and disks for Toyo mod) which is one step on from the 66 mustang style Girlock brakes used on the 71-73 VH
you will find aussie disk spindles easier to track down than the late US A body disk spindles

and if you can wait 2 months for the shipping Australia/NZ standard post will carry them and they arrive by "home delivery network" in the UK which sometimes circumvents the customs on everything associated with parcel farce

just got brand new clutch flywheel et al via that method NICE

My car was a 68 front disc A body to start with ( obviously with disc spindles )

If you use the Wilwood Dynalight package all you need to do is spin the spindles down on a lathe to accept the rotors etc.

The caliper bracket which is lighter black / dark grey in picture number S6302127 needs to be cut / drilled / repositioned for clearance

The arms / balljoints all remain the same allowing the completed unit to be bolted up
