68 Charger LL1

Post by nigel »

I did a few jobs to the car over the summer. I've put the bumble bee stripe on, it took ages to line up properly using water and a little 'Dreft' as a lube.

I've also fitted a auxiliary cooling fan (now the car can sit in traffic all day without worrying that the engine is going to overheat). I bought a 16 inch fan from Ebay for around £30, reversed the polarity and turned the fan blades round to face the opposite direction so it could sit in front of the radiator and blow air rather than suck. Also bought for around £40 (from Ebay again) a billet aluminium thermostatic switch holder which I fitted into the top hose.

My winter job is going to be a brake upgrade for the front, which is in the garage ready to fit.

Great stuff

love the thermostatic switch holder safer than a switch.

I take it water gets hot switch makes contact between 2 wire making the circuit.

Then switches the earth :?

Fan always has a 12v feed :?

Strips look great :thumbright: :thumbright:

The thermostatic switch that screws into the aluminium hose connector is just a make and break switch and cannot take the high current of a fan, therefore it controls a relay which in turn switches the fan on and off.

I've copied the links below but not sure if they'll work.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 406wt_1037

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... SA:GB:1123

The thermostat and housing was purchased from LMA Performance (Tel: 08454 304404, email: info@LMAperformance.com)

The fan was bought from JBI Motorsport (Tel: 01279 550037)

If you need more info, let me know

I also bought a universal fan mounting kit, but never used it as I made a mounting bracket. If you or anyone else wants it, let me know and I'll put it in the post, I don't want anything for it.

Had the SL55 about 2 years now, thinking of a change, but it's had to think of another car which could replace it

Good work.

The overheating problem in traffic is something i have had with many cars over the years, and puts me off owning others to be honest.I must give that Fan blower a go in future.
