Got a point there Pete, never forget Gary's Picnic night racing when at the top end my plastic header tank blew up and there was a mad rush to get it fixed for the next round of comp....Blue will remember that very well.....on reflection now, I reckon that was due to a small leak in the head/s.......Pete wrote: Ported Iron heads were OK back in the day when there were no realistic or affordable options. Ok , let's see if i can encourage a few others to post, here's another one i ran in 93-94.
A 74 Plymouth Scamp, I p.ex'd a Dodge truck and some cash for it, came with a 440 in it, chassis connectors, home made manifolds, new quarters, full interior, bench seat, column shift auto, steel wheels. Weight i would say 3400 with driver at a guess. The guy had ran 14.3 best at 97mph.
I put f.wells on it, recurved the distributor so all the timing was in by 2000rpm approx.
On thin street tyres it ran best 13.4 at 104mph, over the next yr i fitted slicks and a 11" converter, it then ran 12.8 at 108 best.
Unfortunately, it was a basket case that i was welding up every other week, so i looked around for another body, nearly picked up a 70 barracuda for it but the guy gave me the runaround, this is all pre internet, just mags and exchange and mart so i advertised it for breaking, a guy bought the car and said he was going to repair it but i dont think he ever did.

Best et/ time not been achieved since I have done some mods which had to be done ie bigger fuel pump / lines .
I feel 60ft is too high but this is heavy and still 440 not 540!
Need more seat time etc!

Raised port 906's, 1/2'' spacers screwed to intake sides.
Steel crank, ali rods, venolia pistons 13 t0 1.
650 Crane roller cam with Crane Golds.
Team 'G' with 1050 street dominator.
4.56 gears and humungous tyres 31 x 16's.
Best run by Jimbo was 10.40 at 132ish.
Know there was more in there but we was running outta cash for race fuel lol!

Tunnel ram with twin 750 double pumpers.
Think he used to cheat abit with a shot of NOS!!!
Story goes he had a buyer for the motor and run it one time too many.
Guess what, the motor went bang and 5grand went up the swanny!
Still got one of the heads orf dat motor, very nice work done by Hauser back in the day!!!

They were so heavily ported they were lighter than ali ones LoL!!!
