Got a week off work next week and looking at changing the fluid in my rear diff. Its an 8 3/4 suregrip unit. Been checking the manual which says it never needs to be changed but Im guessing they didnt think there would be many around 44 years on!
Got a couple of queries... What oil would you recommend using and any tips/ hints as to the best way to do this job?? Any do's and dont's???
If you take the filler plug out and have a siphon gun you can pull most of it out OR pull the half shafts and undo the diff bolts pull it forward just a bit and most of it will drain out , refill with LIMITED SLIP DIFF GEAR OIL you can get it from Halfords or any good car shop OR put normal gear oil in and trot along to your jeep dealer and get a couple of bottles of the addative and put that in FIRST and top it up with oil OH yes its better if its warm first !!!!!!
Thanks for the really quick response mate! Ive got a suction gun s will use that to draw the old fluid out as you said, cheers.... Just out of interest, what is the difference between normal and limited slip fluid???
There is enough room on the rear casing to put a drain plug in. Once that's done it's never a problem to get it all out
