Poor manifold casting

Not going great so far, yes I got it in the UK but they are out of stock at the moment and I have not managed to actually speak to the guy I keep getting told to talk to. I did consider having it welded for a faster result but if it gets messed up in anyway I'm left with a unit that I can't return. Still waiting to hear from the elusive chap so I'll keep you all posted. If I do get a refund I still need to source an RPM Air Gap for a 340 SB.

OK guys here is my best option as they do not have any in stock and I need the car for a wedding shortly, well two actually but one not till September. The suppliers are happy for me to take photos and email them, then get it welded up and take photos then then they will refund the repair work as needed. So now my question is, does anyone know who could do this for me. I can only MIG and ARC weld steel so thats me out

I will take the manifold off to get some beter pictures first

Not sure i'd be happy with that as a response. I'd wan't more than the money covered for the repair. You have to do all the leg work/travelling to the place that can fix it, plus then have the knowledge that the manifold is not A1 condition/has a weak point!

Just my opinion!

Yeah I had another look when I got home and put a bright light inside and it shows how thin it is around the hole. The more I see it the less comfortable I am with the thought that it will always be a potential weak point, also is it the only one on this manifold or could there be others I cant see yet

Even if I get my dosh back I'd still like a replacement and I need the gaskets and courier costs etc. I took a video on my phone which shows the problem much clearer but have no idea how to post it cos its large and I dont do who tube

bit coplimicated. Mean while here's two photos with Wifes phone shoved down the manifold, one off and one on.

Take it down to Bailey motorsports near Pete and Roydon. They can do that for ya!

Actually, forget that! Go get some JB Weld. That will sort it! And you will not have to remove it!:D

Just spent the last two hours removing the manifold as the supplier is going to collect it and refund for manifold, gaskets and original carriage. There is no way I can see the hole from any angle without a mirror so not sure how they are gonna weld it up but thats what they said. Not my problem I suppose cos I've asked for refund not repair. Now it's off I can see better with the mirror, one from outside and one from inside the air duct. All I gotta do now is find a replacement, I have one confirmed in a couple of weeks and have a couple of other people to try. I was going to take it as a conversation piece on Wednesday Nights Hooks Cross meet but it may be gone by then

Old manifold has been sent back and I have a full refund including gaskets and carriage

New one ordered, received and fitted

Thats probably the best solution. Doesnt compensate you for the time wasted in fitting & removal but there you go. If that was a defect introuced during casting (as opposed to machining) the chances are the whole thing was a dud anyway so on that bvasis it needed binning. Would be interesting to see how it got past the manufacturers quality control.

I'd love to know what happens to it now, the supplier seems to think they'll weld it up and sell it cheap. I can't see how it's even possible IMHO but I guess that's not for me worry about, just be on the lookout for a cheap "new" manifold and possibly avoid

Nah that'll weld up alright. Once its dressed it'll be fine. We weld much more complex ally castings here, and they are structural.
