That's CHEAP - you should have seen them a few years ago ;)
Just ask Jim ;) ;) :read2:

I am sure you will find a nice car in your budget range but I would suggest driving a few different types fist, it might influence your decision.....if only an "E" Body drove as nicely as it looked, very few do........try and "A" and a "B" out as well, and also a "C" if you need a landing strip.......... ;)

Well I'll admit that I am a complete newbie to the scene. If anyone has any examples of the different bodies or even non-Mopar v8 classic American goodness for comparison purposes and would let me get a little drive in Kent/Surrey after work one day, I'd be more than grateful. :)

Sasha, if you are ever near Birmingham then you are very welcome to take a look at my Polara, C body 68. Not to everyones taste cos shes not a muscle car, but 383 4 bbl, 727, 8 3/4 rear etc so ok to 60, and tons of room for mrs n kids in the boot!! Maybe convert you to the C body massif!! :thumbright:

Cheers Steve.

PS its double bad cos shes a four door sedan! (can you hear them moaning!!)

:iagree:

Best bit of advice out there!!!

If you've never driven one make sure you drive a few.
They may all feel slightly different due to age and when some of the component parts were changed. Spending £20k on a lovely E bod only to find it drives like a 40 year old yank with 50 year old engineering can be an eye opener, and skew the idea of spending that much £££ on a glorified sofa!

Not trying to talk you out of it as these cars are fantastic, but do know a few people that after lusting for a long time for somethin american ultimately sell it within 6 months due to the drive quality not being as per the image that they believed or that films had depicted!

Have to say the steering on my car is wooly...............But i love it as its part of the cars character of the car! :D

73 Plymouth Duster - SOLD

I wanna go so FAST i think i'm going to DIE!..........Then i'll shift into second!

Hi Sasha welcome, im new here too, am also in the market to buy or will be shortly and a Zed fan too, had several 300zx's uk spec TT one was a 420bhp animal (next best thing to a yank, for me anyway)
I personally would forget the Hemi too much money unless you can affored one of course, you dont come across good cheap ones unless its un restored and you dont come across them much either, if you did its probably a w****r I would look for a good 440 6 pack they can hold their own. Or have the 440 tuned yourself with the money you would be saving, thats the road im taking.

But if a Hemi is what your hearts set on how about this, its a clone but has a Hemi

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-PLY ... 3f1a41cb3a

Or this clone

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/426-hemi ... 4169309888

Or put a bid on this absolutely drop dead gorgeous Road Runner Hemi clone

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Hem ... 460677535a

Then you have cars like this at this price range

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-Ply ... 3f1ab24723

Restoration project

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-440 ... 3a7827ea90

A little different but a good price and worth thinking about

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-Dod ... 1c29feb069

Now where talking

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-Dod ... 3a780262e0

Anyway good luck with what ever you decide.Image

Good luck on the car purchase, Sasha.

Very briefly....

Mopar: -
A Body = long, very popular in the scene, many variants over many years (with Aussie RHD cousins in various shapes and forms)
B Body = long and wide, many variants over many years, all are pretty much cool and respected
C Body = huge all round, rising in popularity, real head turners and full of potential (and space)
E Body = wide, massive doors, popular, nice "coke bottle" styling, two variants from 70-74 (or 70-71 as some would have you believe ;) ;) )
vans & pick-up's = any age truck looks great, as do the vans, older vehicles are rarer but can still be had for good money

Other non mopars well worth considering:-
Camaros, Novas, Mustangs, Buicks, Corvettes, Olds, Pontiacs, Cougars

Plus the older pre 60's Plymouth Furys, Savoys, Ford Galaxies, 55/56/57 Chevvies, the iconic Cadillacs, etc
1973 Dodge Challenger

Thanks for this. I've been lurking around, so sort of know bits & bobs and just love the styling, heritage and feel of the E Bodies despite the stuff I've read about handling, etc - these things can be changed, unlike the overall look.

If someone has something relevant in and around Kent/Surrey or Nottinghamshire where I'll be up for a few weekends in the next month or two that they wouldn't let showing me around and maybe letting me have a go, I would be very grateful.

***

In response to some of the other stuff, I do realise that the original numbers matching, absolutely perfect 70-71 challengers and cudas will be way out of my reach, but I'll just have to find something that is as close as I can for reasonable money. :)

#1 is very good, but a) I don't have any unwanted kidneys and b) it's sold.
#2 is excellent, but given that it has 5 days to run and after adding shipping, duties and tax I'll also end up missing body parts.

Roadrunners don't really do it for me - just something about them that doesn't tick the right boxes.
The rusty 71 Challenger would definitely be an option if it was somewhere this side of the pond, but I wouldn't buy something like that unseen to ship across.

The two Chargers at the end are pretty much exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for, but in Challenger format. If a Challenger came up in the same spec/sort of car, I'd be potentially very interested. The Chargers just seem like a much older car and the size/shape/feel isn't quite what I'm after I think, although with the Chargers I'd put it in a "never say never" basket.

It was just really to give you an idea of what you could get or expect to pay for x amount of money, or build a 600+ bhp skyline ;)
