904 woes

Post by terryr »

having a bit of trouble with the push button in the valiant ,all oil looks good and levels seem ok ,all works fine except its taking along time to drop into top and you have to drop the revs for it to engage ,but once in its not slipping and drives as normal, wondering if it maybe band adjustment ,and if it is ,is it the one inside or outside the box

i think you will find your high gear clutch is goosed, try the band in case the timing is out, also be sure your linkage down from the carb is on and set correctly,,,,,,

I wouldn't. It would only make things worse. Just check it is adjusted correctly. Also tighten the band until the adjuster is just snug and back off 2 1/4 turns.

Ad Duncan says even though the fluid looks OK it seams like there is to much movement in the top and reverse clutches. It a week point on the 904 the intermediate band and the clutches. The kick down linage control's the pressure in the box so if that not adjusted properly you will have problems
